“A fiendish love... an unearthly love... those who feel such a love are numbed to their very souls by this mysterious pleasure while they struggle with endless frustration, censured by the pangs of conscience of their boundless crime”
― Junji Ito

BOUND TORONTO presents Ero-Digital, a performance that explores themes of corruption, identity, and the dismantlement of life.

SHIBARI AS HEALING PRACTICE

Shibari is the Japanese art of rope bondage that has evolved since the 17th century. Given the misunderstood perception of rope bondage, Ero-Digital reorients the relationship between the rigger and rope model by highlighting its restorative attributes of reclaiming body control, trust and emotional release.

LINEWORK AS NARRATIVE ARCS

Junji Ito’s work and his use of repeated geometric patterns to portray the inner turmoil of the female protagonists inspired us to emphasize linework + composition as symbolic narrative arcs.

Sølve Sundsbø’s photography revealed the strength of using simple lines to create an optical illusion outlining the shape of a woman’s body.

CHOREOGRAPHING FOR A NON-LINEAR SYSTEM

Staging the performance “in the round” elevates the performance to a 360° viewing experience.

Designing a scalable non-linear visual system to synchronize the choreography with the visuals + soundtrack was essential to keeping the show on track, while also allowing flexibility for improvisation.

ERO-DIGITAL IN THREE ACTS

By creating an experience flowchart based on a three-act structure, it aligned with the non-linear visual system designed to be scalable for future performances.
